Hello Jéromine, could you present the theme of your conference and tell us who this conference is for?

BlendWebMix positions itself as a unique and inspiring conference on new professions and uses of the new technologies of the Web industry. It’s been on the local Web scene for the past 6 years, and it is aimed at all webmakers willing to learn and understand more about the changes that occur in this particular sector.

Blend Web Mix

Above all, BlendWebMix aims at inspiring its visitors. Our conference gathers about 2000 participants each year, who come to the event for over 75 lectures, various workshops and an Entertainment Village.

Another perk that we are known for and that we are constantly improving is our networking system, allowing the visitors to broaden their professional network in best conditions.

What's your background and what is your role in organizing the conference?

I am in charge of communication at La Cuisine Du Web - a local independent nonprofit organization which came up with the idea of creating BlendWebMix. And I also work on BlendWebMix, in the communication division.

What is the philosophy/purpose of your conference?

Those who have already come to BlendWebMix know that there’s always a fun and festival atmosphere; our goal is to make work pleasant. We want people to do business, but moreover, we want them to enjoy themselves!

How do you attract attendees?

As I have mentioned before, BlendWebMix was launched 6 years ago, hence why we already have a wide pool of regular participants. Our communication on the event goes through various mediums that we’ve established ourselves (such as the social media, newsletters…), but also through our partner communities and medias which support the event.

Blend Web Mix

We are always in pursuit of pertinence and are trying to remain relevant and up-to-date with current events. We monitor the wants and the needs of the Web ecosystem and doing our best in order to provide it with valuable info during BlendWebMix. That’s the spirit that we put forward in our communication on the event, our choice of speakers and our branding in general.

What are the 2 ou 3 main problems you have encountered in organizing your conference?

When you organize an event, the main problem resides in luring, recruiting and organizing the volunteers and their work. Even though we have “loyal” volunteers, who’ve been with us for a while now, a lot of newcomers join us every year! And besides all, we always need people to lend us helping hand on D-Day!

Blend Web Mix

How did you solve these problems?

We often report on the advancement of our project and on our needs in terms of human resources. And the community itself brings us new faces!

Have you found tools or services particularly helpful?

We are using Workable for recruitment and profile management, and Airtable for work distribution between our volunteers. We also use Slack A LOT; it’s a very helpful communication tool, which allows us to keep in contact with the volunteers and all those who are in any way involved in the project.

What is your advice for conference organizers who are organizing their first event?

Have fun! But remember that work comes first. The level of the involvement of each and every volunteer has to be kept high so that everything works properly. You also have to work on targeting your audience so that you know how to reach them.
